Jon,

For your edification:

GARBC stands for "General ASSOCIATION of Regular Baptist Churches." It is an association. By the way, I actually pastor a church in this association. Surprised?

Regarding laypeople/clergy, I only used the word "laypeople" one time in this article and didn't use the word "clergy" at all. However, the Bible does make numerous mentions of the distinctions between the "sheep" and their "shepherd," the "equipped" and the "equippers," the "learners" and the "teachers," etc. I do not believe that pastors are better than the people in their care but they certainly are distinguished in a number of ways.

Try not to make personal attacks by saying "Your words are silly" when in actuality it may be the converse. Further posts like this will be deleted.

I randomly found your blog, and thank you for sharing your thoughts with such honest affection. Sometimes the world seems a cynical place. Religion ia becoming a politically incorrect word in favor of spirituality. It is lovely to see someone so grateful to God for giving them their soulmate. I hope you had a wonderful Father's day, and that your children and flock appreciate you on this special day, and always.

I came upon "bowingdown.com" while searching for a photo/graphic to depict "bowing down to science" ... I recognize and respect some of the names on your roster and look forward to visiting often. But in the meantime ...

Will you help me learn how to begin a classy blog such as yours? I love the classic, professional look ... everything about your presentation is appealing and respectful. (Category Cloud is unique! I will eventually visit each link.)

I'm in the process of accumulating and formatting data for a second website for our ministry ... our current website is not friendly enough for me to make the changes/additions we'd like to include, and our web host is expensive. I'm a "self-taught" 66-year-old computer learner (15 years) ... always blessed when a program's function is accidently discovered to make my work easier. I don't have the time to search out blog opportunities so I boldly and "humbly" ask for your help and hints. You possess the expertise I'd like to reach for.

If you're willing, thank you. If not, please let me know so I don't expect anything ...

Visiting here has been a inspiring! May our Lord continue to richly bless you and your blog ministry. He's so good!

This & related issues have troubled me for over 20 years, and I have seen wonderful congregations split over them. My gut feeling (Holy Spirit directed?) resulting from all my experience with Churches of various denominations & worship styles, is that however sincere an individual may be, 'Charismatic' behaviour does not come from a holy source. Sorry to be blunt, but from what I have seen in Australia, hand-raising is usually the thin end of the wedge, leading to a very destructive outcome. I hate feeling this way about fellow worshippers, and am still trying to research this scripturally to ensure I do not have a wrong bias. I am open to correction as long as it is from Biblical truth. Personally I believe that too many Christians who wish to seem 'modern' & tolerant are biting their tongues about these issues to avoid conflict, while those who are attracted to the Charo/Pente ways are not at all inhibited. Even though they generally can't give a good justification for their behaviour, Charismatics don't mind whether their behavior distracts or offends other worshippers. It is this attitude which (to my thinking) is the key FRUIT which demonstrates the ungodly spirit behind the whole movement. I agree with everything you said about needing the balance of intellect & emotions in worship, & that absence of support for something in Scripture does not equate with condemnation. However, so far I find the overall tone of the New Testament and especially the words of Christ to be at the other end of the spectrum from publicly demonstrative emotional ecstacy. Obviously we must all be respectful of one another, but Paul emphasised order in public worship. If a little hand raising was as far as things went, that would probably be no problem. In the final analysis you can only judge any tree by its fruit. Sorry for rambling - I gathered have so many thoughts over the years. I pray God will lead me to the truth in this matter & am open to any wisdom out there.... Thank you for your time.

Charles,

This issue was dealt with 16 years ago. Old news. Read the following to see the SBC's clear opposition to free masonry:

http://www.namb.net/atf/cf/{CDA250E8-8866-4236-9A0C-C646DE153446}/Closer_Look_Freemasonry.pdf

I would absolutely agree, by the way, that God is an architect, a designer of everything that exists, and so should you. That does NOT mean that I or Steve Lawson or anyone else uses that term in the same way that Freemasons do. That is an ad hoc fallacy.

While I disagree with Al Mohler in a couple areas, I fail to see the relevance of your point. I know where you're going with this, but it is frankly a stupid argument.

You should be careful about accusing spiritual leaders.

I will delete further posts of this conspiratorial nature. You are not welcome to post such material here.

Charles,
Where exactly did you get your information? From what I have seen, men like Mohler and Lawson have initiated a conservative reform of the theology at their schools and churches. How exactly would a freemason agree with these (http://www.sbts.edu/about/truth/abstract/) principles?

Steve Lawson refers to God as an architect just as Freemasons refer to their God as an architect. Lawson is a SBC pastor. The SBC is masonic controlled with over 1000 masonic pastors. Lawson is a wolf in sheeps clothing. So is Al Mohler, who holds leadership positions in 2 UN-NGO's. So is Mark Dever a change agent in the church. Too bad Macarthur allows SBC leaders in his church!!

You used to be able to hike up to the letters and climb on them. I have a picture somewhere of me on the top of one of the "O"'s from back when I was in college.

Brian,

Thanks for this. I regret that I did not go this year. I probably should have. But this is good to read.

Sounds great! What is a Paleo-Evangelical? True worship brightens a rainy day. Be refreshed! Any books to buy?

To Akil: Hi I am a worship leader (7 years) in a congregation in Vereeniging South Africa. I appreciate your article and it is in fact true that worship should be in spirit and in truth. However as warm believers we also have the responsiblity to challenge fellow believers in their spiritual growth and worship. You dont need to lift your hands while in church, lift it there in your room where it is only you and God. This is my challenge to you as a fellow believer, becasue i would like for you to share in a new dimension of His presence, blessings, Armand
