It’s Time to Make the Switch!
After many months of actively supporting Mike Huckabee for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, I have come to a point of decision today.
Mike Huckabee remains my favorite candidate of those who are running for President. I have a great deal of respect for Mike and have enjoyed the frequent interaction with his campaign.
However, with the endorsement of John McCain by Mitt Romney today, I have come to the conclusion that the Huckabee campaign is no longer sustainable.
Some of you may laugh at that statement and think “He hasn’t had a shot since Super Tuesday.” I disagree. Mike’s strategy shifted from gaining the nomination outright, which became nearly impossible, to denying McCain the delegates needed to win prior to the convention. His hope was that a brokered convention could have brought a win to his candidacy. I thought it was a good strategy. But that is over now. With most of Romney’s delegates going to McCain, John McCain will be the outright winner of the nomination, probably by the Texas primary.
It is with that understanding that today I unequivocally endorse John McCain for President.
Despite any political differences I have with Senator McCain, I believe there are seven compelling reasons to support the Republican nominee for President this Fall.
1. The war on terror
2.-7. The six U.S. Supreme Court justices that will be 70 years of age or older by the election in November.
I plan to work hard for the success of the Republican nominee and believe John McCain is that individual.

I’m disappointed!!!!!
I’m with you Brian. I feel it is over for Huckabee. I’m hoping he might be the VP, but I don’t thank that will happen.
Your blog got me looking at Huckabee and I went on to endorse him and start blogging on his behalf back in April.
I hope Huck’s message is out there now, and we’ll see more servant leadership, responsible government, and charitable treatment of those across the aisle.
Thanks for a good post.

Go Huckabee!
It still is fun to watch the other side, though. You might like to check out http://www.scragged.com for some good political stuff.
you guyz do what you want…it’s not over yet.
You can throw in the towel, give up and run with the herd.
I am and will be behind Gov Huckabee 100%.
And he COULD win.
You know what i say:
GO MIKE GO!
Pat,
I appreciate and understand your comment. You’re quite right–it’s not over yet.
And don’t get me wrong: I greatly admire Mike Huckabee. I supported him from the beginning of his candidacy BEFORE the Iowa caucus. I have contributed to him, interviewed him a number of times, and blogged very favorably about him.
I’m just trying to face reality. McCain is less than 100 committed delegates away from securing the nomination outright, even before Romney’s delegates vote at the convention–many of them for McCain.
McCain has all but locked up the nomination. I hope Mike keeps active and gives it another go in 2012.
I know this may come across harsh, but I will be very thankful when he moves out of the picture and I hope he retains no place of leadership or influence in the GOP. Frankly, I believe that he has hurt the testimony of evangelicals in many ways. He can whine all he wants about how he’s been treated by other campaigns and the media, but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a national candidate offer such obvious cheap shots thinly cloaked as questions which he can back away from quickly. I don’t trust him one bit.
Dr. Doran,
I’m assuming you’re referring to Huckabee.
Obviously, there are strong feelings both ways. He’s certainly not a perfect candidate (not that there ever has been one!). I do appreciate his socially conservative stances and believe he could have been a good president. It would have been nice if some of the more conservative voices could have gained a stronger national momentum (Duncan Hunter, etc.), but this seems to be a sound-bite, personality-driven society.
I am deeply disappointed as well. I backed Ron Paul but was encouraged by the Huckabee candidacy, John McCain will NEVER recieve my vote. I don’t vote according to who I think will win, but according to who best represents my views. To do otherwise is to destroy the whole idea of representative government. McAmnesty does not refelect my views at all. I don’t want illegals pouring over the border and I don’t want to be in Iraq for 100 years. I’ll be voting third party this election.
Huckabee isn’t finished! Come on, Texas!
